Re: mabel a model????
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 7:12 PM" I ASSUME THAT BATS AS WELL AS CHILDREN ENJOY ROSE APPLES.
They do. Several kinds of flying foxes in the old world tropics include rose apples in their diets.(2,3) The fruit is hollow and has 1 to 4 seeds which rattle around in the hollow cavity.(1) Rose apple trees reproduce mainly from seeds, so flying foxes help to disperse rose apple seeds away from the parent trees. Re: mabel a model????
Thu, September 24, 2009 - 8:34 PMreally, in real life, i've spent alot of time this summer watching the bats zip through the lights in the parking lot when i run the dogs at night. one in partiular just hangs from the extension and lets the bugs come to him. they are very interesting. this time of year, some of them migrate. we have bat houses up at home, but no bats so far. -

Re: mabel a model????
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 9:06 PMyeah, we've had ours up here for two years. at our old house though, we put them up and the bats moved in the next year. of course we had bats in our garage over there, so it wasn't a stretch for them.
peanut butter and apples, huh? -
-
Re: mabel a model????
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 11:54 PMyou can move bats in a season, if you please them in the right way. they are cute little furry fuckers. -

-
Re: mabel a model????
Sat, September 26, 2009 - 3:45 PMi really do find them appealing. and they are very useful to the environment. especially as bees die out. i would like to have a fruit bat or flying fox, but unkle fuzzy seys no. actually he puts it a little stronger than that. -
-
Re: mabel a model????
Sat, September 26, 2009 - 5:43 PMsince bees have been dying down, other insect forms, have begun pollen collecting. so there still is the right amount of pollinators in da world. -
-
Re: mabel a model????
Sat, September 26, 2009 - 6:26 PMnope, it's all dependent on bats. bats rule the world! -
-
Re: mabel a model????
Sat, September 26, 2009 - 10:34 PMIn Oregon during the early 90's another domesticated bee die off ocured. I noticed in my yard those years more mason/wood/native species of bees at work.
Large die-offs of hibernating bat colonies first noted in New York just a few years back are now spreading to other populations. Some unknown factor is weakening hibernating bats, killing off up to 95% of some colonies. A white mold forms on sick or dead bats- not known if this is a cause or symptom. -

Re: mabel a model????
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 8:11 PMIt seems more complicated than that:
I suspect either SMERSH, SPECTRE or KAOS, or even Dr Evil, logically.
The orange and grapefruit crops of South Texas depend on those bridge-bats,
without these Texans could suffer from rickets and scurvy, and as Texas goes, so goes the country!
Yeah, this is bigger than any one super-villain! -
-
Re: mabel a model????
Wed, September 30, 2009 - 9:59 AMFleas?
Some of them have fleas, but not the same kind of fleas that dogs or cats have.
Fleas never last long on a bat, cuz they taste too yummy. -
