People are stupid. "Born in the USA" became a jingoistic party anthem for a generation of frat boys, who were seemingly unaware that it was a protest song written by Steve Earle - a total anti-frat boy, working class white trash rebel if there ever was one. The song is a protest about the plight of working class kids who were sent off to fight in Vietnam. I guess the rich spoiled little frat boys never actually understood what Bruce Springsteen was mumbling when he sang that Steve Earle song, other than the chorus "born in the USA."
